The MQ-9 Carbon Monoxide, Methane, and LPG Gas Sensor Module can detect carbon monoxide and methane gas. The sensor uses SnO2 as the sensitive material, which has lower conductivity in clean air.
The sensor works by cycling between high and low temperatures. It detects CO at low temperature (heated by 1.5V) and increases its conductivity as the gas concentration rises.
At high temperature (heated by 5.0V), it detects combustible gases such as methane and propane, and clears the other gases that were adsorbed at low temperature.
